Hello! I’m John Grassey, the maker behind Boon Island Originals. It all started in 2018 when my wife needed some durable cubbies for her 2nd grade classroom and I thought “I can probably make those…”

I quickly caught the woodworking bug and started learning more about the craft, building furniture for our house, and making gifts for family and friends. In 2020, in a bout of quarantine boredom, I started posting my work on Instagram as Boon Island Originals and the rest is history. I work primarily out of my home in Central Massachusetts where I also juggle a full time job and two young kids. I cherish my time in the shop and love bringing people’s ideas to life.

In addition to making things, I run New England Makes, a website that celebrates New England artists, makers, and creators.

And for those wondering - Boon Island is a lighthouse off the coast of Maine. I have a weird affection for lighthouses, particularly this one.
